Podiums for Harrogate Nova at Isle of Man Youth Tour
In youth racing the start of May means one thing: the Isle of Man Youth Tour. Seven of the Harrogate Nova Youth Racing Team made the trip this year – Bobby (U12) Erin (U14) Jake (U14), Dan, Josh, Reuben and Patrick (U16).
Fast Start in Douglas
The first stage was a two-minute prologue along the promenade in Douglas. All the Nova team rode solidly with the standout ride coming from Bobby who came in 4th.
Bobby Takes the Overall Lead at Jurby
Day two was the largely flat circuit around Jurby. Buoyed on by his prologue result Bobby unleashed an un-matchable turn of speed in the sprint winning the Under 12s race and moving into the overall lead.
Next up Erin and Jake in the Under 14 races. Erin did a great ride coming in 7th in the girls race. Jake rode an aggressive race taking bonus seconds and was just pipped for the win coming in 2nd and moving up to 2nd on the GC. In their race the Under 16 riders were continually in the mix looking for moves but in the end the race came down to a sprint with Dan taking 6th and Josh, Reuben and Patrick each putting in good performances.
Final Day Battles on the Stuggadhoo Circuit
The final day was on the new Stuggadhoo Circuit. The Under 16 team rode strongly and in the final sprint Dan got 4th and Josh, who is more at home in the hills came in a credible 12th. In the U14 race Erin did a good ride coming in 8th. In the Under 14 boys race Jake went all in for the overall win, taking bonus seconds, attacking his rivals and going solo. Eventually though Jake was brought back and the race ended in a sprint. In the Under 12 race Bobby rode brilliantly coming in 2nd.
Strong Overall Results for Nova
It was a great weekend for the Harrogate Nova Youth Racing Team. In his first year as an Under 12 Bobby came 2nd overall, Erin was 7th, Jake 3rd and Dan 6th. Reuben and Josh rode strongly coming in the top half of the field and Patrick showed his form is on the up. A great weekend of racing and strong riding from all the Nova Youth Team.
